We are delighted that last week Sir Cyril Chantler's review on the evidence of standardised packaging presented a strong case for legislation to Government.
The Government has now announced it will be commencing a short consultation before undertaking a vote in the House of Commons. This is exciting news and brings us one step closer to achieving legislation.Together we have worked hard to highlight the need for standardised packaging across the North West to protect young people from being targeted by the tobacco industry through glitzy packaging.
This work was reinforced last week by new YouGov data showing more and more people are supportive, with the figure rising to 64% of adults in the North West. There is still work to be done and we need to continue to push for the Government to listen to the evidence presented in Sir Cyril Chantler's review and implement legislation as soon as possible.

We celebrated our first year as a social enterprise last week and took the opportunity to reflect on an amazing 12 months! There has been many successes including our conference in May, progress with standardised packaging, Government support for smoking in cars carrying children and our anti- tobacco industry tour across the North West! Read more about our first year in Andrea's latest blog.

Hi and welcome to your April eNews.
It's been another exciting month for tobacco control with the Chantler review finding compelling evidence for standardised packaging.
The release of the report was very good timing on our first birthday as a social enterprise! To celebrate our birthday we held a policy planning day which allowed us to reflect on a great year, many successes and plan our main focuses for the next 12 months.
We are now looking forward to our youth event next week where young people from across the North West will become anti-tobacco ambassadors, learning tobacco industry marketing, anti-tobacco advocacy and receiving media training.
I look forward to updating you on the day next month.
