Senate inquiry into Vocational Education and Training

The Education and Employment References Committee will act on a Senate referral for inquiry into the operation, regulation and funding of private vocational education and training (VET) providers in Australia.

The inquiry and report is to be completed by 10 August 2015. Submissions are now open and should be received by 13 February 2015.

 

WA state government investing $17 million for VET in schools

Education Minister Peter Collier has announced a $17 million funding package for Vocational Education and Training (VET) in public secondary schools in 2015 - a 51 per cent increase on 2014 funding.

This funding is part of WA's Bigger Picture Education Program.

NCVER Statistical report - June quarter


NCVER latest statistical report shows the number of apprentices and trainees in-training throughout Australia as at 30 June 2014 was 351 000, a decrease of 14.2% from 30 June 2013.

The report also compares commencements, completions, and cancellations and withdrawals to the previous year, and shows a decline in these areas.

Data is also available broken down for states and territories.

NCVER student outcomes survey


Results of the student outcomes survey for students who completed their vocational education during 2013 are now available.

The survey focused on student employment outcomes and satisfaction with VET in Australia.

Information about the level and type of training students undertake, further study patterns and reasons for not continuing with the training (where applicable) is also collected.

NCVER is seeking presentations covering the 3 key areas vital to developing the VET system and meeting future skills demand:

Youth: engaging, inspiring and supporting students to realise their potential

Pathways: transitioning through education and training into the workforce

Skills: working with industry and employers to improve education and training

NSW 'Made by TAFE' campaign

TAFE NSW has launched a new campaign aimed at highlighting the value of TAFE NSW qualifications.

The 'Made by TAFE NSW' campaign places a quality stamp on TAFE training for a better future. A series of ambassadors have been selected to share their stories and inspire students.

Victorian Labor to 'save' TAFE

The Victorian Labor party won last month's state election; one of Labours key campaign focuses was a $320 million TAFE Rescue fund.

Premier Daniel Andrews has allocated $100 million to re-build and re-open TAFE campuses.
