Barnard College Update - Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016

Dear Claremont resident:

As we ready the Barnard campus and prepare to welcome our first-year and transfer students this weekend, we are pleased to report that the noisy part of rock excavation should be done by the close of business tomorrow. While we will still be removing soil and rock from the site over the next several days, the loud chopping noise we have dealt with for most of the summer will cease. Thanks again to everyone for your patience this summer – we know it’s not been easy at times.

Next up, the contractor will begin preparing the foundations for the building. This phase will include construction of a foundation for a large steel crane, which will be brought to the site later this fall for the steel erection phase. This upcoming foundations phase is less noisy than rock excavation, but may be loud on the days when there are concrete pours and a large influx of trucks making concrete deliveries. Concrete trucks need to run continuously so the concrete does not harden.

In addition, we understand from the fliers posted along Claremont Avenue that the Con Edison work being done on the street should be completed today and that the DOT will begin repaving Claremont Avenue tonight.  More information can be found on the posted fliers.

Construction Schedule

Our schedule will continue to be weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
