This is Ecocide

We won!

Inline

What a night! Polly was a winner at the People’s Book Prize Awards, all thanks to you and your votes. We are merrily celebrating and we hope you will too.

For Polly this is a great vote of confidence by the public for her campaign. She wants to eradicate ecocide and you are helping her by speaking out about her book. This is a peoples prize and Polly says “a HUGE thank you to all of you who voted and are helping to spread the word about how we can eradicate ecocide. I want to take this law to the UN and you the people are helping me do that. This is true people power!”

The trial

Inline

For one day only we will put Ecocide on trial as if the Crime of Ecocide has been made law. That day is the 30th of September 2011 and the venue is the Supreme Court in London. Precisely what the charges will be revealed on the day. It could be charges of ecocide by:

  • deforestation
  • arctic drilling
  • deep sea mining
  • mining
  • oil spill
  • fracking
  • unconventional tar extraction
  • peat land removal

We need your help to reach our target funds. If you have a few pounds to spare, please donate it to the cause here.

The Ratcliffe case overturned

Inline

The Ratcliffe 20 had their convictions overturned by the Court of Appeal for want of fairness. The convictions of 20 people for trying to shut down Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station was a miscarriage of justice, the Court of Appeal has ruled.

The prosecution had failed to disclose information to the defence that could have undermined the prosecution's case, and which could have provided a measure of support for the defence at trial. At the heart of their failure to comply with its disclosure obligations was the evidence of undercover police officer PC Kennedy (known as Mark Stone). As a result, the original trial has been rendered unfair and the convictions are deemed unsafe. Accordingly all convictions have been quashed.

One question that has still to be adressed is whether it is a crime to fight for a greater but as yet unnamed crime of ecocide of our planet. Is it not a legal injustice that those who care for the Earth are the ones who are convicted; on the basis that they have refused to remain complict and instead stand up and fight for the lives of the whole of humanity and the Earth?
