Academics

  • Bible - We will study Elijah. Our story will come from I Kings 17:1-16.
  • Memory Verse - Philippians 4:19, “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
  • Reading - We will be reading a story called “Ah...Music.” We will also be explaining idioms. If you have any fun idioms you want to share, send them by email. Here are some examples of idioms: “It’s a piece of cake.” “It’s raining cats and dogs.”  “Let the cat out of the bag.”
  • Spelling - Our spelling pattern this week will be the R-controlled vowel sounds. Sometimes this spelling pattern is called the “Bossy R. because when a vowel is followed by R, it makes a new sound.” There are three ways to spell this sound. First, er is the most common in words like fern   herd   term. Next, ir is the second most common spelling and is used in words like    bird    chirp    firm. The least common spelling is
  • ur which is in words like   turn    burn   church.
  • Grammar - We will be working with subject/verb agreement. Here are some examples: Dad fix/fixes things around our house. You look/looks tired.  Mom reach/reaches for the ball.
  • Math - Continue to work on addition and subtraction families through 15, clocks to five minute intervals, elapsed time, and interpreting word problems to solve. We are also continuing to work on addition with regrouping of 3-digit numbers.
