Kit Pearson '65
"Believe in yourself"
Kit is a world-renowned writer and winner of numerous literature awards. She was born in Edmonton and grew up there and in Vancouver. She is now a full time writer with many books to her credit. Her books have been published all over the world and she has won fourteen awards for her writing, including the Governor General's Award for 'Awake and Dreaming'. Her latest novel, "The Whole Truth", has just been published.

At this joyous time of year, when we come together with friends and family, it is always my pleasure to connect with the extended Crofton House family of alumnae.
We have had a truly wonderful year, with many exciting accomplishments. On September 16, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the opening of our new Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC). This beautiful, purpose-built centre ensures that the very best in education now begins in junior kindergarten at Crofton. Welcoming our youngest learners is the Centre’s receptionist, third-generation Croftonian, Stephanie Hurl (’06). Stephanie’s mother, Trish, graduated in 1975, and her grandmother, Kathleen Cooke, graduated in 1939.

The construction of the ECEC is part of our Campus Master Plan, which sets out an overall vision for the future of the campus. Part of that vision includes a renovation to the Old Residence. CHS has had the building designated as heritage – the heritage elements, which will be preserved in the renovation, are much of the façade, the interior curved staircase, and the plaster ceiling in the Heritage Dining Hall. We hope that once renovated, the Heritage Dining Hall will be a space for use by alumnae. A commercial kitchen will eventually be attached so we will be able to support catered events. We expect renovations to be complete in the fall of 2012 – start planning now for your Crofton House event!

It is my pleasure to wish all CHS alumnae a very festive holiday season. It has been a wonderful year at Crofton – one worth celebrating! We welcomed the daughters of four alumnae this fall, bringing the total number of current alumna mothers to twenty. The daughters of three Old Girls are also currently enrolled. I am personally delighted to carry on the tradition with both my girls attending CHS.
On September 30, CHS held its 14th Annual CHS Golf Tournament, hosted by the Alumnae Association. Eight alumnae joined us for the hugely successful event. We look forward to seeing more alumnae teams sign-up for next year's tournament.
Also this year, the Alumnae Association worked on its first-ever strategic plan, which includes a focus on reconnecting alumnae to the school. We look forward to sharing more about the plan in the coming months.
After such a successful year, I hope you will join us at the Seasonal Social and Carol Service on Friday, December 16 at 10:00am. We would love to have your voice join with other alumnae as we sing one verse of a hymn. As always, we are pleased to provide you with reserved seating. We also hope you will join us for our February 15 Cypress snowshoeing event, which features a cheese and chocolate fondue.
