O brave new world! That has such people in it!

Mothering Touch has just entered the Social Media world of Blogs and Twitter (@motheringtouch)  and Foursquare and Facebook.

(Well, yes, we did have a Facebook group - but now we've moved on to a fan page so as to keep everyone better informed. If you were a member of our facebook group, please switch to our fanpage by "Liking" us - if you do it quickly you could in the first 100 people who qualify for a draw for a really cool prize!)

I had never ventured into the Twitter world before.  It's fascinating!  I feel very much like Miranda in Shakespeare's Tempest, when she says: "O wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world! That has such people in it!" That so many people enter into such a constant conversation, trading ideas and information round and about - what a tremendous force!  I can see how new mothers, who are often quite isolated, would find this a great way to connect and find out what is going on. We have decided to join the party! Several staff members will be taking turns tweeting and posting on Facebook.  We will sign our posts/tweets so that you know who you're talking to.

We've also started a Blog on our website where we will post interesting articles and ideas as they drift through our inboxes and our minds.  We would love to hear from you in response. Please let us know what you think of our ventures into the blogosphere.  You can email us by clicking here.

Enjoy the summer now that it's finally here!

Summer has finally arrived in Victoria, and that means it's time to whip out the sunscreen. There are so many to choose from, so how do you know which one is best for your child's skin? We found this article from the Environmental Working Group with an exhaustive list of sunscreens and a score for each one, letting you know which ones have the broadest spectrum and the least harmful chemicals. Slip on a shirt, slap on a hat, and slop on that sunscreen!

Women Carrying Breech May Have a Chance at a Natural Birth

"Breech pregnancies are almost always delivered using a cesarean section, to the point where the practice has become somewhat automatic," says Dr. Robert Gagnon. "What we've found is that, in some cases, vaginal breech birth is a safe option and obstetricians should be able to offer women the choice to attempt a traditional delivery."

There's hope yet for women who want to birth thier breech baby vaginally. The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada has issued new guidelines stating that women carrying breech babies should be given the option to try for a vaginal birth. This comes after a recent study, which included more than 8000 women in France and Belgium carrying breech babies, found that there were no significant differences in risks to babies born by C-section or born vaginally.
