News, views and analysis from the A/NZ tech sector No images? Click here Hi there, If the blowtorch of a global pandemic wasn't enough, last week’s announcement of major, ground-up reforms for the New Zealand health sector signals a big shift toward creating a truly national health IT system. It’s an area that has long been under scrutiny – with delivery most often limping a long way behind ambition. Will outcomes be different this time round? We speak with Ministry of Health deputy director-general for data and digital, Shayne Hunter, who highlighted three ‘really critical’ areas for health IT that will be key to determining the answer. He also opened up about contact tracing systems and the challenges his team have faced – including the pressure of advice from multiple well-meaning parties to implement different technologies, the importance of remaining true to end-user needs, and the role that iterative development is playing and delivering results for the MoH (and its five million potential customers). Integrated end-to-end systems have long been the dream end game for the health sector, but they’re also key for business. With that in mind, we take a look at integration – the power and the pitfalls – and what it takes to make integration projects a success. Enjoy the read, Heather
