Helping families to allow prayer to steer their lives
Our research has shown that there are key things parents can do to encourage a lasting faith in our children. Here at the Kitchen Table Project, we recognise that as influential as each one is in nurturing faith, there is nothing more powerful than prayer.
So our question this month is …
How can we help parents to make prayer an important part of their family life?
Whether that is praying for or with their children, we all want to make prayer as attractive to families as possible – so that it’s a natural part of directing their day to day life, rather than something they only turn to when they are in need. As Corrie ten Boom put it, it’s their ‘steering wheel’ rather than their ‘spare tyre’.
To do this we need access to inspiring ideas, creative solutions and a variety of resources to engage with every personality in the family – that can seem like a tall order!
As leaders, we sometimes feel pressure to have all the answers, but often leadership is about getting our hands on great content and releasing it to those around us.
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Ephesians 6:18
Our aim is to come alongside and encourage you with a wide variety of ideas and resources, so that you feel better equipped to influence and support the parents and families in your church.
We are stronger together and we can do this!

Have you ever thought about hosting a prayer space in your church?
Providing an environment where families can come and try different ways of praying really does leave a lasting impact on our prayer lives. It can also provide a quiet, peaceful place for parents to come to pray specifically for their children, whether that’s in a group or on their own.
