This scholarship has given me the opportunity to undertake a 4-week internship with the KI Landscapes Board. I have formed invaluable connections, learnt all about the great projects underway, taken part in field work, developed practical and self-development skills, and even got aboard the One-and-All! In just two weeks, I have met with farmers who are leading the way in building soil health, productivity and sustainability as well as promoting promising grazing strategies. It is great to see the KI Landscapes Board are focusing on ensuring the health of farming lands for valuable long-term success. I have learned methods which I will be able to utilise on my farm back in the Wirrabara Forest. As well as the agricultural projects, I was able to see revegetation work and the native plant nursery. I spent a day with the Board's Dunnart Project team where I was helping set out mesh drift lines and cameras. This gave me important knowledge on these secretive creatures’ abundance and location within Flinders Chase. Catching up with some of the local youth involved in agriculture while onboard the One-and-All was an experience I will cherish! This also gave me valuable contacts and a method for supporting the drive for youth in agriculture. The feral cat numbers in the Dudley Peninsula were reduced during my day with the KI Landscape Board's Feral Cat Eradication team! The progress they have made is outstanding and I look forward to keeping up with their advancements. I thank the Commonwealth Scholarships program, the KI Landscapes Board and Jenny and Will Stanton for providing me with a great all-rounded experience and the opportunity to meet and work alongside so many inspiring people. I am fortunate to have been able to spend my internship with the team and engage in their projects, ideas, and work in ensuring sustainability of the beautiful landscapes on KI. This experience has given me a truly invaluable step forward in my career. I have high aspirations in attracting youth in agriculture and improving sustainability in the agricultural and environmental sectors. Keep an eye out for my future progress! ~ Renae Kretschmer AgTech adoption rebate for livestock producersAs part of the Government of South Australia’s $7.5 million Red Meat and Wool Growth Program, the Livestock Agtech Adoption Rebate will provide livestock producers with financial assistance to adopt new technology, enabling productivity and efficiency gains in their enterprises.
