Award criteria include active participation in campus activities, excellent performance in the staff member’s own role, demonstrated leadership on behalf of WSU Vancouver and going the extra mile to advance the university. 2016/17 nominations are open now through June 22. Nominations will be reviewed and recommendations to the chancellor will be made by the Staff Excellence Award Committee:

Library to house AAUW archives and historical recordsThe Vancouver chapter of the American Association of University Women has donated its records from the founding of its branch in 1931 to the present day to the Library. This is an important collection of archives, scrapbooks and other memorabilia that documents the roles, contributions and lives of women in Vancouver. Parking Services welcomes new team memberAndrea “Andi” Julian joined Parking Services as a parking guide June 1. In this new position, she will support enforcement and customer service needs. Way to go!Jane Cote, academic director for the Carson College of Business; and Claire Kamm Latham, associate professor of accounting, have recently won two research awards. The first is the 2017 Outstanding Research Award in section awarded by the American Accounting Association for “Developing Ethical Confidence: The Impact of Action-Oriented Ethics Instruction in an Accounting Curriculum" in Journal of Business Ethics. The second is Outstanding Author Contribution in the 2017 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence for “Peer-to-Peer Implementation of an Action-Oriented Ethics Framework in the Introductory Accounting Sequence” in Advances in Accounting Education: Teaching and Curriculum Innovations. Renee Hoeksel, executive associate dean and professor in the College of Nursing, has been named a fellow of the National League for Nursing’s Academy of Nursing Education. Renee will be inducted into the Academy at a ceremony in September. Read more. Jong-Hoon Kim, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, has been awarded a 2017 New Faculty Seed Grant. He is one of 10 faculty members system-wide to be awarded this grant. The Office of Research holds an annual competition for seed-money grants for assistant professors or the equivalent hired within the last four years. Applicants submit a proposal for up to $30,000 over 15 months to support their scholarly, creative or research programs. The WSU Alumni Association has bestowed upon Chancellor Mel Netzhammer the distinguished status of Adopted Cougar. This honor is reserved exclusively for friends of WSU who have made a positive difference for the university through unbridled dedication, loyalty and support. Go Cougs! |
