Seasons Greetings from the Isles of Scilly AONB Partnership!

A look back at 2011.....

March- saw the change in sponsorship for AONBs from Natural England to Defra (Department for the Environment Food and Rural Affairs). Natural England still remains the key advisor to AONB Partnerships at the local level.

April brought the 'Spring into Scilly' event to the Islands' Young People. This event comprised three days packed full of exciting educational activities, aimed at celebrating the unique environment of Scilly.

June saw the arrival of Her Majesty the Queen and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh to Scilly. This was a great day for all involved in the AONB Partnership, allowing us to showcase our work to Her Majesty the Queen.

July bought the National Association for AONBs (NAAONB) National Conference 2011 to Scilly. The Isles of Scilly AONB Partnership co-hosted the annual conference in collaboration with Cornwall and Tamar Valley AONB Partnerships.  Delegates enjoyed visits to Scillonian farms where they discussed livestock and flower farming, local food production, and how management for biodiversity, heritage and tourism is integrated in Scilly.

August- The AONB Unit visited off-island fetes, showcasing the Isles of Scilly Honeybee Health and Seabird Recovery Projects.

September- The AONB Partnership awarded £29,335 to projects through the Isles of Scilly AONB Sustainable Development Fund. These projects seek to enhance the environment of the Isles of Scilly AONB and work towards creating more sustainable communities.

October- Saw the continuation of the AONB Partnerships' Beach Clean Programme with the Five Islands' School Green Team, where countless hours have been spent clearing tones of rubbish off our Islands' beaches. Well done Green Team!

Many thanks to all those who supported us in 2011.

We look forward to working with you again in 2012!
