CPC Partners with Promise NYC to Provide Child Care Support to Undocumented Children in Queens On January 17th, CPC announced that it is accepting applications for “Promise NYC”, a city-initiated program to provide child care assistance to low-income, undocumented families who are otherwise ineligible for federal subsidies due to their immigration status. Eligible applicants residing in Queens can contact CPC to get connected to child care services. Along with CPC, this program is run by: Northern Manhattan Improvement Corporation which supports families in Manhattan and the Bronx, La Colmena which supports Staten Island families, and the Center for Family Life which serves Brooklyn families. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
CPC Project Gateway Members Visit Colleges in the CityOn January 24th and 26th, CPC's Project Gateway members toured Borough of Manhattan Community College and New York City College of Technology. The trips provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn about the many programs offered by both colleges, as well as the resources and tools needed to succeed in their studies.
CPC and Day Care Council Host Financial Wellness WorkshopOn January 28th, CPC Early Childhood Learning and Wellness Services (ECLW) and its partner Day Care Council of New York hosted a Financial Wellness Workshop in English, Mandarin, and Spanish for over 60 child care providers. The workshop explained how to manage grants financially, keep accurate records, fill out tax forms, and more.
CPC ECS Youth Enjoy a Brooklyn Nets GameOn January 26th, over 150 CPC participants from Education and Career Services (ECS) programs in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens celebrated the Lunar New Year by attending a sponsored NBA match between the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons. They had a fun night of sports and music. Many were also excited to meet MC Jin, a well-known musician.
CPC Youth Help Prepare Food for Essex Market’s Lunar New Year EventOn January 31st, CPC youth participants from Manhattan Learn & Earn program and High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies helped fold dumplings for the Essex Market's Lunar New Year event. The event also featured food tasting and lion dancing to kick off the Year of the Rabbit. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
CPC Joins the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade with Our First-Ever Float On January 21st, CPC took part in the Flushing Lunar New Year Parade on our first-ever parade float, sponsored by Starside Pharmacy. Older adults from Nan Shan Senior Center were thrilled to be on the float at the parade organized by Flushing Chinese Business Association. Over 25 special needs families from our Queens Community Center marched together with our float.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services and PCRA Organize Lunar New Year Celebration On January 28th, CPC and Parent Child Relationship Association hosted a Lunar New Year celebration to ring in the Year of the Rabbit. Over 1,000 community members attended the event and were treated to cultural dance performances, martial arts demos, giveaways, community resources, and much more. Wayne Ho Interviewed by NY1 and CGTN America On January 22th, CPC President & CEO Wayne Ho joined NY1's Cheryl Wills on "In Focus" to discuss the safety of Asian Americans in New York City and the recovery of Asian small businesses. He was also interviewed by CGTN America to speak on the recent shooting in California and the importance of making the Lunar New Year an official holiday in New York.
Alice Wong Appears on CGTN America On January 23rd, Alice Wong, CPC Chief of Staff, appeared as a special guest on CGTN America. In the interview, she explained the symbols, traditional dishes, and customs of the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rabbit.
Wayne Ho Named to Schneps Media’s 2023 Brooklyn Power List On January 26th, Schneps Media published the "2023 Brooklyn Power List" and CPC President & CEO, Wayne Ho, was one of the honorees. A dinner event was hosted that night to celebrate and honor some of the most influential individuals in the region for their commitment, impact, and influence in the community.
CPC Rallies for Funding to Support Immigrant Services On January 27th, CPC joined Council Member Sandy Nurse, the New York Immigration Coalition, and partner organizations to rally for the funding of immigrant services. Caroline Scown, Civic Engagement and Training Manager, urged the Mayor and City Council to increase funding for adult literacy services. Upcoming Opportunities / Events
