Clearly you take animation very seriously Trevor - what are your favourite animation studios (other than Atomic) at the moment and why?

Yes, it's nose to the grindstone for all of us every day! Some of the stuff we’re watching is from Cartoon Network and Disney – obvious ones, but for us there’s some really good things going on down there and a lot of the shows appeal to us on a creative level.

For example, Disney has been producing an interesting new series of 19 short films, one of which, Mickey Mouse Croissant de Triomphe, won the 2013 Emmy.

As many readers will know, in August Atomic Cartoons teamed up with the folks at Yeti Farm Creative in the fresh mountain air of Kelowna.

Dubbed the "Atomic 4th Floor", the Kelowna studio has now grown to over 30 animators, recruited from across the country, who are working on three shows including Rocket Monkeys Seasons Two and Three, Pirate Express and a new CG show commencing in March.

Rocket Monkeys: Monkey See, Monkey Do Better

This issue we’re showcasing the talents of recent graduate Andrea Carroll, who’s a background artist at Atomic on the award-winning series Rocket Monkeys.

How did you get into animation?

I always knew I wanted to do something in the arts. My main passion as a child was design – coming up with characters and worlds, setting up stories – and I have a big interest in video games. In high school I took photography, graphic design, fine arts, illustration and a small animation program.

One day my teacher pulled me aside in the hallway and introduced to me to another student. He told us that he wanted us to enter the Skills Canada animation competition as a team.
