Finding opportunities

Research shows that mums and dads are the most important influence on children developing a faith that lasts. It’s so important for us to affirm parents and empower them with simple things they can do to share their faith with their children.

But it isn’t always easy to find ways to talk to parents about the opportunities they have to inspire their children’s faith!

As Easter approaches, we can use this significant event in the Christian calendar to start conversations with parents.

We can provide opportunities during our Easter services where parents can talk to their children about what Jesus’ sacrifice means to them. This will empower parents to realise how easy it can be to share their faith with their children at home.

We hope that some of the different ideas listed below will help you to start those conversations, in ways that suit your churches. And don’t forget, we’d love to hear any ideas that have worked for you.
Have a blessed and happy Easter.

With kind regards

Claire and the Kitchen Table Project team

Top tips

Communion
If the children are in the main service during communion, you could give parents time to explain to their children why they believe this is an important thing to do and what it means to them. Whether your service allows children to take communion or not, it creates an opportunity for parents to link what they believe to what they do. One way to do this could be to encourage your congregation to reflect upon what taking communion means to them, but at the same time encourage parents to share this with their children.

Thank you prayers
Or you could suggest during the service that children and adults write ‘thank you’ prayers to God. This creates opportunities for parents to explain and model to their children why they are grateful for Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the impact he has on their daily lives.

Resource

For ideas of how you can keep those conversations with parents happening see our brand new ‘Church Toolkit’.

The toolkit has been designed as a pick-and-mix of resources to be used in a way that suits your church and helps create a culture where parents are supported in nurturing their children’s faith.

You can download the toolkit here.
