Why is it called Aardvarc?
How was the Aardvarc name chosen? The cynic might say that this was a way of getting to the top of the alphabetical listings. This is not the case.
Aardvarc however, is a memorable term and the animal itself reflects many of the qualities of the company. Of course, the name was altered to have a 'C' at the end as opposed to a 'K', reflecting the arcing of electricity.
The Aardvarc or, in its true Latin name Ocycteropus afer, literally meaning 'digging foot', reflects the tunnel work we have undertaken. The name derives from Afrikaans also means, 'Earth Pig' and of course Aardvarc undertakes earthing studies! It is the last surviving species of the genus Orycteropodidae, so it is a great survivor! Aardvarks are known for their capacity to deep excavate to reach food, being able to dig down over 2 feet in 15 seconds. Finally, their skin is tough and highly protective, enabling the animal to deal with the harsh environments of deserts and digging. So 'Aardvarc' is emblematic for us here and symbolises much.
