Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the Beer Institute’s November 2017 Import-Export Report, which is based on information reported by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Below is some analysis of the report:

  • Imported beer volume increased in November by 1.1%, which is in line with domestic beer growth during that month.
  • Mexican import volume declined in November.  The cause of this decline was largely driven by inventory levels; it’s important to recall that volumes had spiked in October, leaving many distributors with relatively high inventory levels heading into November.
  • Imports from the Netherlands and Belgium/Germany (combined due to trans-shipping) each grew double digits.  Growth among Dutch brands in November were so strong that they reversed that country’s year-to-date trend from negative to positive.
