Welcome to the October Newsletter

What an amazing Ryder Cup weekend we experienced at the end of September!

Around 45,000 people walked through the gates of Gleneagles every day, making the event the third most watched sporting event in the world and proving the continued popularity of this great game of ours.

Relive the best of the Ryder Cup in this month’s newsletter below. We’ve also teamed up with Glenmuir, supplier of the European Ryder Cup team’s outfits to offer one lucky reader £500 worth of Glenmuir gear.

This month’s Product Spotlight focuses on the electronics market, including trolleys and distance measuring devices.

As always, if there is anything that you would like to discuss about your game, please feel free to pop into the Pro Shop at any time and see us.

Pro Shop News

Jaimie and I have just got back from Harrogate following on from the TGI golf trade show.  It is a great opportunity to investigate all the new and exciting products that will be launched next year as well as a time to catch up with other Pro's to chat and compare notes about the year to date. We will keep you informed as new products become available.  In the mean time if you would like to know about any particular product, please do get in touch.

New for Lessons

Although the teaching studio is up and running again we also now have the option of viewing your swing path by attaching a SKYPRO device to your club and then watching via an ipad.  The beauty of this device is that it can be used on the practice ground, therefore, you can see the flight of the ball.  Please speak to either myself or Joe to arrange a lesson.

SkyCaddie AIRE II

The beauty of the SkyCaddie AIRE II is the BIG, easy-to-read front, centre and back of green distances.  It has auto-course recognition and auto-hole advance.  The odometer tracks your location, distance, timw, laps, speed, pace and calories during your run, walk or bike ride.

News on the Golf Course from Head Green Keeper Gavin

In addition to treating the greens with the regular feeds, sprays, verticutting, top dressing, the greens were rolled smooth after aeration to increase speed.

The greens were also seeded with a disc seeder.  This gives shallow grooves in greens to improve numbers of finer grass species creating a better ball roll and, therefore, speed.  This has been carried out once on the 4th, 9th, 17th, 18th, whilst the 13th green has been seeded 4 times to date.

Routine work on the paths and tees continues whilst divot filling and overseeding of poor areas are carried out on the fairways.

Other main work consists of:

mowing all areas

strimming

divot filling on tees

verticutting of green aprons to reduce coarse grasses

extra topdressing of aprons

seeding the practice tees

Currently we are working on flood bank in front of machine shed, including new path to 4th tee and seeding of bank. Also work has started on the new storage area south of the 5th tee, whilst we re route the vehicle track away from the 3rd green to join with the new track over the floodbank.
