Representatives of Canada’s credit unions were greeted as familiar faces by MPs and Senators last week during Canadian Central’s fourth annual Hike the Hill in Ottawa. The one-day event put credit union issues and concerns in front of nearly 40 legislators with key responsibilities for public policy on finance, industry and agriculture.

In the last edition of The Advocate, we asked for your help to grow the CU Nation to 200 advocates by the end of October.  And that’s exactly what you did.

The CU Nation support team received emails asking to join, as well as referrals of potential advocates from credit unions across Canada.

On October 25, Pierre Amyotte, Chief Executive Officer of Lakeland Credit Union in Alberta became the 200th advocate to join the CU Nation.  As for why he decided to join, Pierre told us that the CU Nation “strategy to advocate and ‘lobby’ at the grassroots level makes a lot of sense to me and I will seek opportunities to support that approach if / when I can.”
