Barnard College Construction Update - April 7, 2016

Dear Neighbor,

The deconstruction of Lehman Hall is moving along this week.  A crane delivered the heavier equipment to the site on Tuesday so you’ll start seeing (and hearing) a lot more activity. Remember that you can receive last-minute updates or schedule changes by following @MillieBuilds on Twitter.

Two Week Look-Ahead

Construction Schedule

  • Monday – Friday: 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., but we may occasionally extend until 6:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. throughout the month of April.
  • We will not have construction work on Saturday, May 7; Saturday, May 14; or during Barnard's reading period, final exams or commencement ceremonies.
  • We expect to finish the deconstruction of Lehman Hall by mid-June and begin the rock excavation phase.

Magnolia and landscaping

We know some in the Morningside Heights community followed the move of Barnard’s magnolia tree last fall and have asked for updates. We are pleased so far with the tree’s response and were excited to see the buds were opening. We’ll have to see what happens to the blossoms though after the freezing temperatures we’ve had the last couple of nights.  The arborists from the company who moved the tree last fall expected that the tree might not have a full bloom this year and that it would need to continue focusing its energy on root and leaf development.
