Take time during advising to check that your students are making satisfactory progress towards their degree
As you advise your students over the coming weeks on their fall schedule, it's also a good time to make certain they are earning enough credits each academic year to graduate on time.
Students will be considered to be making satisfactory academic progress if they have maintained a 2.0 cumulative GPA and have completed a sufficient number of courses to proceed to the next academic level (sophomore, junior, senior).
The minimum standards for satisfactory progress are as follows:
Academic Level/Points Completed
First-Years Fewer than 24
Sophomores 24-51
Juniors 52-85
Seniors 86 or more
All students at Barnard must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits per semester; only those students who have completed eight semesters at Barnard are eligible to take fewer than 12 credits. Seniors are not exempt from this federally-mandated policy.
