Editor's note
|
A new report out today has found the four million Australians with poor mental health are also more likely to suffer from every major chronic disease. This includes asthma, heart disease, and painful, debilitating conditions such as arthritis.
As Ben Harris writes, there might be many reasons for this.
Maybe they fall through the gaps between disjointed physical and mental health systems, or maybe it’s related to the fact they’re likely to be less well off and have poorer support networks. Whatever the cause, these figures need to change. And with some awareness, that can happen.

In the 70s, Whitlam tried to build new, big cities. But this was too costly. Now the most viable solution for Australia's population woes is to make existing cities bigger.

Planners have long tried to determine the ideal city size, and ideas have evolved with changing circumstances. But a good city depends more on the way it's managed than on how many people it holds.
