CPC Brooklyn Raises Over $90,000 to Empower Local Communities On October 26th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services held our 44th Anniversary Benefit and raised over $90,000 to advance our goals of expanding outreach, providing enhanced support to communities across Brooklyn, and empowering individuals to pursue enriching opportunities in their lives. This year’s event paid tribute to four outstanding individuals: Alexa Avilés, New York City Council Member for District 38; Yang Chen, Executive Director of the Asian American Bar Association of New York; Sheldon Dempster, Principal of Intermediate School 220; and Dr. John Marshall, Chief Medical Officer of Maimonides Medical Center. EDUCATIONWe provide high-quality learning opportunities for all ages—from Pre-K and after-school enrichment to adult English language classes—because education is lifelong.
Mary Cheng Shares Insights on Early Childhood Challenges in a Panel Discussion On October 18th, Mary Cheng, CPC Director of Childhood Development Services, shared her expertise at the Community Leadership Course organized by the Citizens' Committee for Children. Alongside panelists from the Committee for Hispanic Children & Families and ECE On The Move, they dived into the early childhood landscape at both federal and city levels.
CPC Childhood Development Services Celebrates Halloween with Abundant Treats On October 31st, CPC's early childhood centers and school-age afterschool programs celebrated Halloween with various festive activities. For many children at CPC, Halloween represents more than just dressing up; it's an introduction to Western holidays and a chance to experience the festivities in a school environment. It also allows them to discuss their fears. FAMILY SUPPORTWe make it easier for individuals and families to access personalized social resources because support is fundamental at every age.
CPC Holds Dedication Ceremony to Celebrate the Newly Renamed Josephine M. Ho Community Residence for Special Needs On October 5th, CPC held a dedication ceremony to celebrate the newly renamed Josephine M. Ho Community Residence for Special Needs. Family and friends gathered to honor the legacy of Josephine Ho, who devoted three decades to CPC and the community before her passing in 2019.
CPC NY Chinatown Older Adult Center Hosts Oral Health Workshop for Community Members On October 20th, CPC Chinatown Older Adult Center held a oral health workshop in collaboration with NYU College of Dentistry's Chinese Student Dental Association. The session was made possible through the support of Dr. Ellen Lee, Clinical Assistant Professor at NYU College of Dentistry. Wayne Ho Named to 2023 Nonprofit Power 100 List On October 2nd, CPC President and CEO Wayne Ho was named to City & State New York’s 2023 Nonprofit Power 100 list. Wayne is ranked #12 this year. This marks Wayne's fifth consecutive recognition. The list recognizes leaders of social service providers, legal aid organizations, advocacy organizations, and foundations who are strengthening the safety net and serving the most vulnerable individuals in New York.
CPC Brooklyn Community Services Partners with AABANY on a Legal Clinic On October 14th, CPC Brooklyn Community Services hosted a legal clinic in partnership with the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY). 18 community members and families received legal consultation on matters ranging from housing and estate planning to personal injury and immigration. Po-Ling Ng Honored for Decades of Service to the Community Po-Ling Ng, CPC's Assistant Executive Director and Director of Senior Services, was awarded the Achievement Award of Excellence from the Greater Blouse, Skirt, and Undergarment Association in recognition of her nearly 55 years of service and commitment to the community. In addition to Po-Ling, the association also honored Charles P. Wang, former Executive Director. of CPC.
Mitchel Wu Recognized Among Schneps Media's 2023 Queens Power List Mitchel Wu, Director of CPC Queens Community Services, was recognized among Schneps Media's 2023 Queens Power List. The list includes the most influential movers and shakers in Queens and recognizes those named for their continued commitment, impact, and influence in Queens.
