Canberra Writers Festival

25–27 August 2017

The Museum of Australian Democracy (MoAD) is a proud founding partner of the Canberra Writers Festival, helping create a new major cultural event looking at writing and writers through the filter of power, politics and passion.

Excited? We are too! Head to the Canberra Writers Festival website for tickets and full program.

Canberra Writers Festival: Junior Journo Workshop

In a workshop for budding newshounds aged 7 to 12, Crinkling News editor Saffron Howden will teach junior journos how to craft a news story.

Crinkling News is a new national newspaper written especially for and by kids, approaching facts with curiosity, diligence and a nose for a good story.

In this workshop, kids will work on real-life newsroom scenarios to conduct interviews, develop ideas and create their own news. You never know who may discover their inner Annabel Crabb at this fun, hands-on workshop.

When: Saturday 26 August, 1 pm to 3 pm

Cost: $10 per participant (accompanying adults are free)

Canberra Writers Festival: The Ministry of Truth

On Friday 25 August the Canberra Writers Festival Keynote event The Ministry of Truth will take place here in King's Hall at MoAD.

In an age of constant surveillance, where 1984 and The Handmaid’s Tale don’t seem like science fiction, Ministry of Truth asks its guests to discuss the truth and the fake news of the society we live in.

Join host Dan Bourchier and guests Rutger Bregman, Katy Gallagher, Katharine Murphy, George Megalogenis and Tony Jones as they guide us through the murky waters of duplicitous Newspeak, how they see the future unfolding and reveal what still awaits.

When: Friday 25 August, 7 pm
