Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the State Shipments for April 2018.

Here are a few key findings:

  • Total U.S. beer shipment volume increased by 1.2% during April 2018, which gained one selling day compared to April of 2017.
  • On a selling day adjusted (SDA) basis, beer volume decreased by 3.6% in April.
  • Much of April’s sizeable SDA decline was due to near record-low temperatures across much of the country, especially in the Midwest.
  • April beer sales also suffered due to this year’s early Easter. The holiday was two weeks earlier this year than it was in 2017, and all of its corresponding sell-in took place in March rather than in April.
