Too Many Lists? You bet!

Pixel Dreams - Article - Too Many Lists? You bet! During the past three weeks a glut of annual and decade wrap up lists have appeared on a bevy of websites. I'm opposed to these Best-Of lists. Unless your a major media organization with readership clout. We (content creators) are supposed to use lists to easily convey bit sized amount of information to our readers. Lists organize our information so readers can easily recall what they learned. Not give overworked bloggers and creative types an opportunity to slack during the holiday season. At least that what it appears every year. Most of the lists appearing during the holiday season have little to no creative oomph. Simply declaring the following 10 items whether they be movies, music, video games or adult toys best of the year is going to get lost in the noise. A quick search of best movies of 2009 gave me 142,000,000 results.

We need a list of the best of lists for best movies of 2009!

Not only are these lists boring, but they come with the briefest explanations, providing no value for the reader. How do we at Pixel Dreams create better lists? By becoming inspired by Simon and Garfunkel song 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover. We turn boring stale ugly lists into Barry White songs. Pixel Dreams puts oomph in your list.

What Avatar Taught Me About Online Marketing

Pixel Dreams - Article - Avatar If you haven't seen Avatar, you should.
Don't save three bucks to watch the 2D version. The 3D effects and attention to details by James Cameron are worth the extra dollars.
Knowing when to spend the extra money for a product or service is an important skill to have. The additional expense could be the difference between a stellar site that customers rave about or a ho-hum site that no one pays attention to. The producers of Avatar knew spending the money would reap huge rewards.
Here are some other things I learned watching Avatar:

1. Procrastinating is good Almost 15 years in the making, $400 Million budget. One of James Cameron's excuses was he waited for the technology to catch up with his vision. I wish we had clients with big budget that can wait 10 years for a web 9.0 site. Creativity should not stop. But it may simmer until the product is just right.

2. Content is king, but design is queen
Nobody watches Avatar because of the story. It's not the Godfather. However the use of latest technology and visual effects really trump the weakness of this movie. If your content is average, cover it with a nice packaging.

3. Reverse psychology
The over hype Avatar received created lower expectations. When the bar is set low, it's easy to exceed it. Always under-promise and over-achieve.

Have you learned anything from Avatar? Pixel Dreams wants to hear from you.

Give Away Your Trade Secrets With A How-To

Pixel Dreams - Article - How-to How-To's are wonderful way to learn. They're written from an expert point of view to teach people how to navigate a common or not so common problem. Whether it's home remodeling, digital photography, or in some cases, how to do drugs safely. The latest viral How-To circulating Twitter is a New York City Health Department circular on How To Shoot Heroin . Not everyone reading a How-To is going to immediately run out and try your topic. Contrary to popular newspaper opinion. But they will read it. Especially the controversial ones. There's huge demand from people who want to learn about all kinds of neat stuff via a How-To format. Why not cater to them? Enhance your company's brand by giving away additional advice with a How-To before a blogger or competitor does a substandard one. Pixel Dreams knows how to get a How-To done for you.

Ad Week's Nationwide Take-over!

Pixel Dreams - Article - Advertising Week The countdown to Ad Week’s Nationwide take-over is on! Starting January 27th, the Institute of Communication Agencies (ICA) will be hosting advertising related events and panel discussions across Canada. Last year’s speakers included a mixed bag of former TED Talks guests and innovators in various industries. This year, you can expect more ad and marketing focused sessions from the likes of Arianna Huffington (Huffington Post), Jason Dalley (Microsoft Advertising Canada), and staffers from Yahoo! Canada who will speak on how to create online experiences that emotionally engage your customers. Other hot tickets include the Marketing Hall of Fame awards, the Cassie Awards and the Ad Ball, Ad Week’s ‘fashion fetish’ gala event! Naturally, the bulk of the programming will be taking place in Toronto, but no (Canadian) stone is left unturned this year as Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton, Calgary and Halifax will be involved. So get your ad-man (or woman) hat on and sign up here. Don’t forget your business cards, this is a week long, networking event you won’t want to miss.

Quick Blurb On SEO Keywords

Pixel Dreams - Article - Keywords We know amazing content is key to your website success. Without engaging material people won't invest their time. However, many web designers cut content corners by applying a keyword percentile to their material. Regardless of how terrible sentence structure or phrasing is. Just because the keywords are present, don't be satisfied their crappy content will bring traffic. Do not underestimate the value of readers' social media push. That turns awesome content into its own viral media campaign. With plenty of Diggs, Stumbles and Facebook postings. Is your keyword rich material developed solely for search engines or people? Great content is created for both search engines and people who will post it to their social media pages. Pixel Dreams doesn't analyze keywords. Pixel Dreams becomes inspired by keywords to create wholly unique reader and search engine focused material.
