From the President
Greetings all,
So this is my last President’s letter. And what'a newsletter to end on, ridiculously full of freebies and give-aways. Do make sure you take advantage of the offerings -- it's a great way to celebrate a year that has truly flown by!
I started the year with three goals for the board to focus on; increase member engagement, be more transparent about the workings of the chapter, and focus on sustainability both from an industry perspective and work / life balance with the board.
While self-assessment always has its perils, I am comfortable that in leaving the role of Chapter President we have performed extremely well in these regard, and more importantly as a team.
For highlights of the year read on...
Thank you for your comments, your feedback, and support. Chapter Presidency is a demanding role, but it is a privilege and one I am very grateful for having taken.
Best,
Jennifer

Worldwide Member Month September
And the bonuses continue -- September 2011 is Worldwide Membership Month. This means that for new or lapsed members who join or re-join IABC, we'll waive the application fee A$46 for faxed/mailed/phoned enrollments; A$34.50 for online enrollments.
And, there's an additional bonus— access to the members-only section of the IABC website in September - including Discovery.
In this continuing price-sensitive economy, everyone is looking for a bargain. This is one of our most popular promotions, so be sure to let your prospects and lapsed members know.
We look forward to growing our network with you!

Congratulations to Geoff Barbaro - another Victorian IABC success story
Geoff has been a director, manager, consultant, strategist, academic, communicator, administrator, lawyer, student, bar person, general hand and gofer. Just as broad is the variety of organisations he has worked with and for, including multinational companies, NFP, NGO and community organisations, government organisations, SME, peak professional organisations and membership bodies, and even been self-employed.
Geoff Barbaro has written a succinct, compelling and highly practical book, which provides a simple, adaptable framework to help you discover what REAL leadership communication is in any situation .

IABC / Ogilvy PR research study
In June this year the IABC Victoria Chapter, proudly supported by Ogilvy PR Australia, invited opinion leaders from the Australian PR communications industry to participate in a research study to explore the future of our industry and what PR communications might look like in 2021.
The study has received a lot of interest, both locally and internationally, primarily due to the decision to drop the use of AVE as a measure of a compaign's success.
A very big thank you to Ogilvy PR for this work — it shall be instrumental in shaping conversations of recruitment, product design, and client engagement.
You can find a high level report on the findings on Ogilvy's blog here, and also a contact for the full study.
