Video feature: Working Upstream: A one-day cross-border conference focusing on alcohol early intervention practice

BelongToOn November 9th 2012 a one-day cross-border conference focusing on alcohol early intervention practice and systems across health, social care and community took place in the Waterfront Hotel, Derry.

The conference was hosted by 'Time IVA Change Border Region Alcohol Project' and featured speakers from health services from both sides of the border. The presentations and workshops had a strong focus on best practice, and examined the alcohol early intervention agenda.

Drugs.ie attended the conference, and as a result you can view some of the presentations, a section of one of the workshops, and the panel discussion below.

Travellers accessing a drug rehabilitation service - from a Traveller’s perspective

NACDDrugs.ie has produced a video feature aimed at Travellers who might be considering accessing a residential drug treatment service.

The video is presented by Travellers and provides a quick tour of The Lodge Residential Treatment Programme, Coolmine, Dublin - and includes an interview with a staff member about the programme - all from a Traveller's perspective.

Alcohol Action Ireland’s 2012 Conference: Time Please ... For Change

NACDAlcohol Action Ireland’s 2012 conference took place in the Royal College of Physicians, Dublin, on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

Key initiatives that could make a real difference to Ireland’s relationship with alcohol was the focus of the conference.

New site resources

We are pleased to have been provided with some new resources available to download from our Guides and support booklets section. These have been provided by Ed Sipler, a Health Development Specialist in Northern Ireland.

Included are: A resource for families living with addiction and problematic substance abuse; a booklet for anyone concerned that their cannabis use is affecting them in a negative way; a booklet for anyone concerned that their drinking is affecting them in a negative way; a booklet for parents and carers who find themselves in the situation where their son or daughter is drinking or using other drugs

Due to the recent publicity and warnings about the dangers of injecting melanotan the HSE has released information and advice on the use on injecting tanning agents, e.g. Melanotan.
