Hi there,

Australian’s are, apparently, in support of vaccine passports for international travel. A recent survey found 86 percent support the idea. That’s just as well, because this week they may have come a step closer with the introduction of a vaccination certificate in Australia.

There’s surely really only one reason to have a vaccination certificate – well, one good reason at least – and that’s to help pass through borders, be it international or interstate – something Prime Minister Scott Morrison has previously backed the idea of.

But there’s also the question of what exactly the passports, and indeed certificates, could be used for and the legalities involved. Could businesses block those without a vaccination certificate from entering their business, as with Israel’s Green Pass (now abandoned given the success of Israel’s vaccination campaign).

It’s a murky, untested, area with anti-discrimination and privacy concerns among the many yet to be ironed out.

Enjoy the read,
