Banksia Hill Team recognised at the 2017 Public Health Association WA Branch AwardsThe Banksia Hill team, led by Professor Carol Bower, received the Policy and Research Translation Award for their continued dedication and contribution to public health in Western Australia. The award recognised the team's work on the Banksia Hill Project, which is the first study in Australia to assess and diagnose young people in a youth custodial facility for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Congratulations Professor Carol BowerRecently inducted as a new Fellow to the prestigious Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences. Carol is highly regarded nationally and internationally for her leadership in birth defects research, providing population-based evidence for prevention, diagnosis, management and development of policy and practice. FASD Hub Australia is a website developed by an alliance of organisations working to provide a 'one stop shop' for information, tools and resources that are current and evidence based for health professionals, parents and carers, other professionals (including for justice, education, child protection and disability services), researchers and policy makers. FASD Research Australia Centre of Research Excellence SAVE THE DATE 2nd Australasian FASD Conference Perth 20 - 22 November 2018 Kimberley Alert Program® The team has continued visits to Fitzroy Valley schools and communities through all types of weather and road closures to collect data and support schools to implement the Alert Program® BHP Hedland FASD Project The BHP FASD Prevention team have had a very busy 2017 with health promotion, consultation and data collection activities throughout the year. Implementation of the Alert Program® has now been completed in four schools in the Pilbara region; South Hedland Primary School, Cassia Primary School, Yandeyarra Community School and Strelley Community School.
Telethon Kids Institute was the recipient of a new Australian Government Department of Health grant 'Making FASD History: A multi-site prevention program'. The sites will be in the Northern Territory and New South Wales. |
