APCC - Diabetes Prevention and Self Management (Wave 7)

Fifty general practices and health services from 14 Medicare Locals (MLs) and Divisions are participating in the Australian Primary Care Collaboratives (APCC) Diabetes Prevention and Self Management Wave. The first learning workshop was held at the Four Points by Sheraton on Sat 26 November.

The Improvement Foundation (IF) team were buoyed by the energy and enthusiasm shown by participants as they shared their stories and learnt from each other. We look forward to reporting the results of this wave’s improvement activities in future newsletters!

Collaborative Program Managers receive nationally accredited training

The Improvement Foundation is a registered training organisation and has aligned units from the nationally accredited Certificate IV in Frontline Management qualification (BSB40807) to the content of the Diabetes Prevention and Self Management Wave Collaborative Program Manager (CPM) training sessions.

CPMs who attended the pre-workshop training, were invited to undertake the assessment component.  When successfully completed, CPMs will receive a statement of attainment for the formal unit of competency - Implement Continuous Improvement (BSBMGT403A).

APCC Program Update: eCollaborative Wave – 21st Century Patient Care and Self Management

IF had an overwhelming response to the eCollaborative Wave announcement, and received more than 200 expressions of interest from general practices and health services across Australia. With only 65 available places, IF balanced the limited number of places against a variety of variables in order to finalise the initial offer of places. IF has also made available a limited number of self-funded places and 16 general practices and health services have indicated an interest in this option.

The first learning workshop for this wave will be delivered via webinar sessions on Tuesday 13th and Wednesday 14th December.

AGPN National Forum update

Thanks to all delegates who visited the IF stand at the AGPN Forum in November and tested their skills with the IF target game. The take-home message from this fun game was that being involved in a quality improvement activity gives health care professionals an advantage, and helps teams to hit their targets by making small steps towards improvement. Our team had lots of fun with this game and we hope the participants did too.

IF staff raise funds for Men’s Health through Movember

Congratulations to the ‘Improver Groomers’ (Matt, Aaron, Bryan & Sam) who raised a total of $1,463 to support the Movember campaign and its men’s health partners, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and BeyondBlue.

While the efforts were consistent, the results weren’t, but a great effort from all involved.
