"Trickle Down" Hostility Toward JournalistsOn Friday, July 28, a panel of journalists took a round-the-world look at threats to press freedom: Margaret Talev of Bloomberg and president of the White House Correspondents Association; Margaux Ewen, advocacy and communications director at Reporters Without Borders, North America; and Kevin Goldberg, Association of Alternative Newsmedia counsel and National Press Foundation chairman. The panel was moderated by NPF president and COO Sandy Johnson. Goldberg described a “trickle down” effect that threatens to delegitimize the media. “They see the president of the United States treating the media this way and get applause for it,” he said. Information can be found here. Mental Health ResourcesLast week, journalists packed NPF's media training center for an in-depth look at mental health and substance abuse coverage. They heard from experts on the latest research, what changes to expect out of Washington and how language impacts stigma. A reporters' panel focused on solutions journalism.
