HFI: A Compassionate Presence Around the World!

Dear Friends,

According to Galatians 5:22, kindness is a fruit of the Spirit – a behavior and character trait that will manifest in our lives as followers of Jesus.  The dictionary defines kindness as “The state or quality of being kind.  A kind act; favor.”

Our world needs to experience kindness as an antidote to the unseemly agitation and division that is so rife in our society. Christians are encouraged by the Lord to confront improper conflict and selfishness by acting in the opposite spirit; in so doing, to put on display the very nature of God. The life of Jesus is lived out through His people as we express kindness to one another – those we know…and those we may pass on the street.

Kindness can be as simple as a warm greeting and a smile or as drastic as coming to the aid of those affected by personal crisis or natural disaster.  Sincere expressions of kindness, offered with no thought of receiving anything in return, will have a positive impact on our world.

We hope you enjoy reading about the many acts of kindness conveyed in this Hope Force International newsletter, and that you become inspired to lean into the Spirit of Jesus within you, allowing His kindness to manifest through you.

With hope and appreciation,

Jack & Cherie Minton, Founders

Haiti

A team of 34 from across the US and Canada recently returned from a two-week trip to Nepal. Once again, we've had the privilege of extending the long-term presence of HFI's international partner, Apple of God's Eyes Ministries, into rural villages through medical/dental expressions, building homes and transforming lives through emotional and spiritual care.

We invite you to watch this video report of our time there!

We now have 49 Reservists in Mexico  and with another Hope Force Reservist training scheduled for August, our ranks will continue to increase! This growing team is comprised of healthcare workers, architects, social workers, teachers, mission leaders and many others. A group of Reservists (and other volunteers) have been serving together in an effort to meet the unmet healthcare needs in underserved communities.

Since January, our Mexican Reservist team has conducted two outreaches, providing medical, dental, optical and practical assistance. People in rural areas travel for miles just to be seen by one of the healthcare providers. The comfort of knowing that someone cares, and the hope inspired by practical help received, is a strong testimony of God’s love to each individual.

Hope Force International is in the process of creating the necessary legal entity in Mexico to provide the framework from which the ministry will function. We have a core group of leaders navigating governmental requirements, and hope to see this completed some time later this year. This is an important part of laying the foundation for future development of the organization. Your prayers for this undertaking will be deeply appreciated.

Update from the Field

Rain, rain and more rain has been on our minds in Haiti in recent weeks. For those of us living in Sous Savanne, that translates into very muddy roads and flooding of fields. However, in other parts of Haiti, the flooding has been even more severe – washing out roads and damaging crops and homes.

A small project we have found necessary to undertake with the increase in moisture, is to improve the road from our HFI staff home to Sous Savanne – adding dirt/gravel to fill the muddy potholes. READ MORE

HFI disaster responder training is held throughout the year in various locations across the United States and North America. Our vision is to equip and empower willing responders to serve in immediate aftermath and recovery efforts, whenever and wherever disaster strikes. Hope Force Reservist training focuses on preparing an individual for the arduous task of a disaster responder.

The signature Hope Force Reservist training program, includes two days and one evening of basic training for service with Hope Force International. This training is required to become a Hope Force "Reservist"— eligible for rapid deployment within 24 to 48 hours of a disaster event.

We recently held a drill for blue tarping and flood remediation with a group of Reservists in South Carolina.

Check out the fun we had!

Our upcoming training schedule is:

  • August 10 - 12, 2017 in Pachuca, Mexico
  • September 21 - 23, 2017 in Franklin, TN
  • March 15 - 17, 2018 in Flemington, NJ
