Do you submit your Annual Return for the Charity Commission? Qualified Reminder

When you complete your annual return for the charity commission, there is a point at which you are asked to say if your accounts are qualified.  Please read this carefully and the guidance provided. The Commission is not asking if your accountant is qualified but whether your auditor or examiner has “qualified” their report. If the report is qualified, that is usually bad news. If you say ‘YES’ then people like funders will be see that your charities accounts were qualified and it will not look good.

Civil Society Strategy launched by Government in August

The strategy document sets out how the government intends to support civil society in the future. It defines civil society as referring ‘to individuals and organisations when they act with the primary purpose of creating social value, independent of state control. Social value means enriched lives and a fairer society for all.’

Chapter 3 is about THE SOCIAL SECTOR: supporting charities and social enterprises.  May be worth a look.
