In MemoriamAs many of you are aware by this time, Chris Keegan a former NBSTSA Board of Directors member and a long- time friend of the profession of surgical technology, passed away suddenly on December 1, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.
Chris Keegan became a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) in 1974 and began her lifelong commitment to the profession of surgical technology, education and students. She held a Bachelors degree in Health Science and History and a Masters of Science in Education.
She not only served on the NBSTSA Board for six years, she also served for six years on the AST Board and the ARC/STSA Board. Additionally, she had been a member of many organizational committees, had written many articles in the AST Journal and spoke countless times at AST and other Conferences. She was a member of the Indiana State Assembly where she had served as president, vice president and treasurer. Chris was a tenured and beloved professor and program director at Vincennes for many years serving as chair of the surgical technology program there since 1991. She was a practitioner, a prolific author, speaker and mentor. Most of all, to those of us in the profession or who have worked at any of these organizations, she was a great friend.
If you would like to contribute to the memorial fund established in her name to benefit surgical technology students please go to ast.org/ffstdonation/ChrisKeeganFund

Marketing Tip“A great looking resume will never get you a job, but an average looking resume can knock you out of an interview.”
-Jimmy Taylor (Veteran Medical Sales Recruiter) Sometimes looks really do matter! Here are some tips for creating an attractive resume: - Make sure the structure of your resume is well-formatted
- Reduce some clutter by leaving plenty of white space and using bullet points
- When typing up your resume, always save it as a Word document
- Always check and double-check for any spelling errors
StatisticEmployment of surgical technologists is projected to grow 12 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
The average pay for a Surgical Technologist is $19.62 per hour. The skills that increase pay for this job the most are Neuro, Open Heart, and Vascular. Most people with this job move on to other positions after 20 years in this field.
Study TipResearch has suggested that when we hand write our study material, it's stored stronger in our brains than when we type it out. Recopying notes onto a different sheet of paper can help the information to stick in our minds more securely.
