Lincolnshire School Games

Congratulations to all those schools and students who competed in School Games competition last academic year. In total 2,754 athletes competed in a Level 3 county competition across 20 differing sports, which equated to 159 individual schools participating in 1 or more events.

Two large multi-festivals were hosted throughout the year, with each continuing the legacy of the Olympic and Paralympic Games through the display of cultural ceremonies and Olympic Sporting Champions to inspire all. In total 172 young performers took part in the 2 multi-festivals from a variety of art forms – dance, music, graffiti, gymnastics and parkour freerunning. 6 winning Haiku poems inspired by the Spirit of the Games Values were selected from a county wide school competition. Winning poems were printed and displayed on feather banners at the Summer Festival.

In order to support the delivery of School Games Level 3 events we require a large number of volunteer workforce. Out of the 423 volunteers who supported events in 2014/15, 317 were young people under the age of 18. In order to provide a pathway of leadership opportunities for young people as well as competition, the Lincolnshire Leadership Academy offers secondary students an annual calendar of leadership opportunities.

Young Ambassador Programme

Throughout this academic year Lincolnshire Sport is introducing a new Lincolnshire Leadership Academy programme.

This will give students the opportunity to attend various information and practical evenings over the academic year, gaining experience and training around developing their personal leadership skills and leading sports within a school and community setting.

The students who become involved in the Lincolnshire Leadership Academy will gain the knowledge and experience needed to be able to help deliver sporting sessions, mini competitions and support events like the School Games Winter and Summer festivals.

Schools and individuals can sign up with their interest in being part of this exciting programme by emailing schools@lincolnshiresport.com.
