Breaking news: the Government released its 2050 Plan for the Great Barrier Reef.

Hi friend,

Breaking news: the Government released its 2050 Plan for the Great Barrier Reef.

There is some good news but sadly it falls short of the mark to protect the Reef.

Plans to ban the dumping of dredge spoil, targets for water quality improvement and restoration of laws to protect vegetation, rivers and coastal regions are all welcome additions made by the new Queensland government.

There is also a commitment to protect the Greater Fitzroy Delta.

However the 2050 plan does not rule out further dredging and massive port expansions such as the one proposed for Abbot Point.

The money needed to reduce farm pollution running onto the Reef remains inadequate; and the plan fails to tackle the biggest long term threat to the Reef, climate change.

That’s why I need you to step up and help end the long-term threats to the Reef.

The most urgent thing you can do right now is email Minister Greg Hunt and let him know you're disappointed that Reef 2050 won't do enough to protect the Reef. Click here to email him now.

Not sure what to say? Don't worry we've got all the information you'll need right here.

If you listen to Greg Hunt, he’ll say the Government’s doing enough for the Reef - but it’s simply not true.

They don’t go far enough to fully protect the Reef.

I’m more committed than ever to ensuring that Australian governments take the urgent action needed to keep our natural wonder safe, now, in 2050 and beyond.

I hope you are too.

P.S. What you do today matters. Tell Greg Hunt you want no less than 100% protection for the Reef right now.
