Hi there,

Quantum physics deals with explaining the world at the smallest scale, but quantum technology could have a big impact on Australia according to CSIRO.

The research agency says local quantum technology could be a $4 billion industry by 2040, creating 16,000 jobs.

And, while it seems a nascent technology, CSIRO says Australia has plenty of experience – some 20+ years worth – with world-class expertise.

At a time when we’re all still reeling from the economic fallout of Covid, the potential for high value job growth is appealing, but there’s a big gulf between innovation and successful commercialisation.

Turning knowledge into new jobs will take a unified approach from government, industry and researchers. Get it right though, and the payoffs could be a quantum leap.
