In an interview last week, Jeff Bezos talked about the importance of getting eight hours’ sleep a night to the success of his business. The founder of Amazon said, “I think better, I have more energy. My mood is better.” In our industry, where people are often deprived of sleep due to long working hours and the now constant demand to always be contactable, it was a reminder of the importance of wellbeing to achieving a successful business and happy workplace.

Our first Happiness in Hospitality report will be published later this month in the next issue of CODE Quarterly. We look closely at wellbeing in the workplace and the impact of burnout and mental health. If we’re to create a happy, sustainable industry to work in – looking after employees has to be the cornerstone to it.

Have a good week.
