News from the Principal

I can't recall an evening at the theatre that I have enjoyed more than 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' last week!

Asian Science Camp

Year 12 student Sheryl Ding has been chosen to attend the Asian Science Camp in Tsukuba, Japan in August.

This is an outstanding achievement for Sheryl who will get to work with Nobel Laureates and world class researchers during the six-day Camp. They will share their science experience through plenary sessions, round table discussions and student master classes.

Sheryl’s two passions are science and social justice and at the Camp she looks forward to exploring the impact, ethics and complexities of science and the power we have to change the world.

Congratulations Sheryl.

College Captains visit State Parliament as President’s guests

College Captains India Cowie-Kent and Lachlan Brooks, were guests of the Legislative Council President, the Hon Bruce Atkinson MLC, at Parliament House on Tuesday 25 June 2013.

Palazzo Versace 2013

On June 13 four very lucky Year 12 students left Kingswood College bound for a Transition to Work Program at Palazzo Versace Hotel.

Katherine Kicks On!

Katherine Smith has once again proven that she is indeed one the College’s greatest sporting talents with her performances at the recent Under 18 Girls National Football Carnival in Shepparton.

1. Who are you and how are you connected to Kingswood College?

My name is Nick Georgiadis. I am 70 years old and was a border at Box Hill Grammar until 1962.

After leaving school I worked in a bank for about 11 years where I reached the level of Bank Accountant.

Lord of the Rings – The Two Towers!

Julian Dods has won the treble solo in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers with MSO at Hamer Hall.

Fees

Fees are due for payment on 22 July 2013.

Winter Woolies Drive

During the first two weeks of Term 3, students are invited to donate coats, jumpers, doonas and blankets to the Kingswood College Winter Woolies Drive.

My, how the time has flown!

The end of Semester One has come quickly. It has been an action packed term with a range of sporting events, Naplan, camps, excursions, clubs, incursions, fund raising, family evening, a Soiree and Middle School at Kingswood programme just to mention a few.

Primary Years Programme

During the Kingswood College Staff Conference the Junior School Staff will be undertaking the Making PYP Happen programme.

BPDSSA District and Regional Cross Country

Students from the Junior School were involved in the BPDSSA Cross Country on Monday 27 May 2013 at Ruffey Lake Park, Doncaster. 43 students ran in either 10 Years, 11 Years or 12/13 Years events.

Kingswood College Junior School Winter Sport Round Robin

The College participated in the BPDSSA Winter Sports Round Robin Day 1 on Friday 14 June in three different sports: Netball, Soccer and Tee-ball.

Junior Chess Team Runners Up

The Kingswood College Junior School Advanced Chess Club had eight of its members recently compete at the Whitehorse Regional Chess Championships against a number of local schools.

Years 4 and 5 Tree Planting with Mr Brian Pell

Jack: It was a fun morning because we were able to plant lots of plants with our friends. Zane and I planted 26 trees together!

Professor Bunsen

Junior School students were enthralled with the Science show presented by the entertaining and informative Professor Bunsen.

Gardiners Creek

Years 5 and 6 students continue their regular visits to Gardiners Creek and the Box Hill Golf Club to ensure they are doing their best to make a difference in the local environment.

Parents and Friends Association

Last week was a busy week for many PFA members as they supported the staging of the Secondary School Production offering refreshments at interval for all performances and coordinating the food and drinks for the Awards party following the final performance.
