Announcing 2015 College Captains
'If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader' – John Quincy Adams

It is my great pleasure to announce that the Kingswood College Captains for 2015 will be Phoebe Wells and Lucas Beyer.

Applications were sought from interested Year 11 students who could demonstrate commitment to our core values of integrity, compassion, respect and responsibility.  Phoebe and Lucas were selected by their peers and staff from a very impressive cohort.

Please join me in congratulating Phoebe and Lucas and I wish them all the very best in their important role in 2015.

Aurelienne Pywell - Year 4

Aurelienne Pywell of Year 4 tried out for a spot in the Under 12 Girls Eastern Hotshots Hockey team. The zone challenge is a competition to give players opportunities to compete at a higher level and takes place over two weekends in November at the State Hockey Center, with representatives from ten zones all around Melbourne metro and the state.

Aurelienne was successful and will represent Under 12 Girls Eastern Hotshots as their Goal Keeper. She is only 10 years old, and this year played Under 10 Mixed Shield for Waverley Hockey club as their Goal Keeper. In this zone competition she will step up to play against girls who are older and more experienced, but she is very excited about the opportunity to play on the State Hockey field.

Good luck Aurelienne

News from the Junior School

I seem to have been having more and more conversations with parents and teachers recently about how quickly the year has gone. To think that there are just over four weeks of the year to go for our students is remarkable. Attending the Junior School Café Concert on Wednesday evening made me reflect on just how far our students have developed and grown throughout the year. To see the confidence with which children stood up and performed was wonderful. Many of these students also wrote their own script and / or were performing for the first time. Congratulations to each and every student and thank you to Michelle Radcliffe and Kathryn Nelson for organising the evening as well as those other staff who attended.

Your Parents and Friends Association

Last Friday the PFA celebrated World Teachers’ Day by providing a morning tea for the College teachers and staff in Cato.  Thank you to the parents who helped by providing the delicious food and to Kate Castle, Judy Phillips, Sue Power and Janet McColl who helped to set up, host the event and clean up.  A special thanks also to Susan Castle and Stuart Castle, who along with Liam Jones and Tom Quanchi, Year 12 students, were our baristas for the morning.  And finally a special mention to Kelly Costello and Bakers Delight at The Glen shopping centre for supplying the delicious scones with jam and cream. They were certainly a hit with all the staff, so they were much appreciated.

As we celebrate World Teachers’ Day I would like to take time out to thank our teachers for the wonderful job they do and for the considerable extra effort they put in to ensure that our children make the most out of the opportunities presented to them. This has never been more evident to me than this past 12 months whilst our son Jack has completed Year 12.  We, and other VCE parents, have found the VCE teachers to be amazing. On behalf of all the parents and the VCE students I sincerely thank you for your dedication and commitment to our children; for the extra hours you put in mornings, after school and even Saturdays to coach our children; for correcting the never ending pile of practice exams; and for ensuring they have the best possible preparation for their exams.  We hope they all do you proud!
