Highlight: 2015 Poster Design Workshop & SciComm Exchange at URI's Metcalf Institute

Design a poster that stands out from the crowd!

You have about one minute to catch the attention of the average conference attendee with a scientific poster. This underscores the importance of designing compelling, easily readable posters that are more likely to engage a passerby. This interactive workshop will focus on best practices in conceptualizing and designing scientific posters.

The workshop is free and open to science faculty, research staff, and graduate students from all Rhode Island colleges and universities. Space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register by Monday, February 2. Furthermore, the Poster Workshop will be preceded by a SciComm Exchange (an opportunity for scientists to strengthen their communication skills through informal conversations) from noon to 1:00 PM, which will include lunch. Attendees are welcome to register for one or both sessions. For more information, please visit the event's website.

Science Underground: Neuroaesthetics and Consciousness: The Interactions between Science and Art
Science Underground is a Providence-based science cafe for anyone interested in learning about science and talking with scientists in a non-academic setting. This event will feature Bill Warren, Professor of Cognitive Science at Brown, and Paul Armstrong, Professor of English at Brown. Science and art may appear to be completely disparate disciplines, but often, what we learn from one can complement the other. Indeed, studying science and art in tandem is perhaps the key to understanding big ideas like aesthetics and consciousness. This event is free and open to the public; if you're planning on going, please RSVP to pvdsciunderground@gmail.com. View the event's Facebook page for more details.
