NEW FESTIVAL MANAGER ON BOARD

Tanya Hussey has been appointed Festival Manager for the 2016 Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival (BOFA), supporting the Festival Director, Owen Tilbury, in the planning and practical management of the 2016 BOFA Festival.

Tanya returns to her home in Launceston to take up the BOFA position after two years in Adelaide in several roles including Director of Sales for the newly opened Ibis Hotel Adelaide. She has more than 10 years experience in the tourism industry in Adelaide, Brisbane and in Launceston, where she was Business Development Manager for Sebel Launceston.

The new position will allow Tanya to develop her longstanding passion for community and arts culture.

“BOFA has the potential to become an iconic arts event for Launceston, and I’m looking forward to contributing to that development,” she said.

“My past community activity has included bringing Skywhale to Launceston, working as local co-ordinator for the Meet the Street campaign, and producing the Tasmanian Creative Culture booklet for the Regional Arts National Conference 2010 in Launceston.”

“I was drawn to BOFA’s emphasis on innovation and community development, and it’s great to be a part of the dynamic team working to make the 2016 BOFA Festival the best yet.”

Chasing Asylum
CHASING ASYLUM

The film the Australian government doesn’t want you to see.

BOFA is proud to partner with CinemaPlus and Amnesty International, Tasmania Branch to bring this controversial film and its Director Eva Orner to Launceston.

From the Academy Award  winning Eva Orner (Producer, TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE; Director, THE NETWORK), CHASING ASYLUM reveals the personal impact of sending those in search of a safe home to languish in limbo - with never before seen footage from inside Australia’s offshore detention camps.

Chasing Asylum explores the mental, physical and fiscal consequences of Australia’s decision to lock away families in unsanitary conditions hidden from media scrutiny, destroying their lives under the pretext of saving them.

You can meet  Eva Orner at an intimate and in depth Q&A after the film.

For too long the Australian Government has been hiding behind a policy of secrecy regarding offshore detention. The Australian people can’t decide what they think unless they are informed and can see exactly what is going on in our detention centres on Nauru and Manus. I invite all  Australians to come and see the film, and then make up their own minds as to whether our treatment of asylum seekers is humane and justified or not”... director Eva Orner.

Hawthorn Short Film Competition
HAWKS AND BOFA PROMOTE JUNIOR FOOTY

In a new initiative to promote junior football in Tasmania, Hawthorn Football Club is partnering with the Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival in a short film competition.

Any registered Tasmanian junior football club could win $4000 simply by producing a three minute video about their club- its history, its achievements, or its colourful characters – the unique story of their club.

One junior football club will receive $4000 for the best film, which will be shown, together with the other entries, at the 2016 Tasmanian BOFA Film Festival, to be held in Launceston from November 10 to 13.

BOFA Festival Director Owen Tilbury said that the Festival was delighted to be working with the Hawthorn Football Club which was making such a significant contribution to Tasmania.

Today’s technology means that making a short film is well within everyone’s reach, and we’d like to challenge the creativity of junior football club members to tell the story of their club in an entertaining way,” he said.

It can be funny, dramatic or nostalgic, but it should tell us what makes your club special.

Speaking on behalf of the Hawthorn Football Club, State Operations Manager David Cox  said today that the competition reinforced Hawthorn’s commitment to the development of junior football in Tasmania.

This will not only be a big boost to a junior club’s finances, but it will provide a focus on junior football at Tasmania’s major film festival.

Entry is open to any registered Tasmanian junior football club and films must not exceed three minutes in length. Entries close on Sunday, September 11.

Details are on the BOFA website and include how to enter and where to find help.
