| |
LAKE WALES, Fla. – Roll up your sleeves and start getting ready for Florida's gardening season on Saturday, September 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Bok Tower Gardens. Join local expert and Roosevelt Academy/Farms agriculture teacher Ray Cruze to learn the basics of planting your own garden, from seed starting to harvesting. If you’ve never gardened in Florida before or are looking to become more successful, this interactive workshop is for you. $35 per participant; includes a hands-on project to take home. Instructor Ray Cruze brings 20 years of Florida gardening experience as the Agriculture Teacher at Roosevelt Academy and as a Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA) Certified Horticulture Professional. Ray will cover all the basics including containers, growing mediums, light, warmth, water and attention. You will be able to experiment with different techniques including starting from seeds and using coir bags. “Tips will be offered on how to use a plant's own defense system to help control diseases and pests found on most vegetable crops," Ray said. "The use of organic fertilizers and supplements like fish emulsion and seaweed will be demonstrated as well." This unique session will help you learn the skills necessary to become an enthusiastic gardener," said Bok Tower Gardens Director of Education Tricia Martin. “Ray is a phenomenal resource, and we're so excited to offer this fun and informative class." The registration fee is $35/person and includes Gardens admission and all materials. To register, please email programs@boktower.org or call 863.734.1222. # # # Download printable PDF - Download Photos About Bok Tower Gardens: |
