Gubernatorial Candidate to Speak at January 10th Meeting
Join us at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10th
for our monthly meeting. Adrian Wyllie, Libertarian candidate for Governor will be our guest speaker. Adrian is an outspoken opponent of REAL ID, the TSA and other Constitutional issues. He will speak to us about his candidacy, taxes, and political policy. We will also have information on what the Columbia and Suwannee County Commissions are doing and information on our upcoming meetings and events. Please plan to come out for this meeting! We need to take every chance we get to inform and educate ourselves on the issues affecting us today and in the future. We need to look at all options when voting for candidates at the different levels.
We want to make a renewed focus on local government and will have information from both county commissions. If you have any information that you think needs to be passed on to our membership, bring it with you to the meeting; or email it to shiggins@windstream.net if you would like it included on the blog or in an upcoming newsletter.

Governor Talking to HHS Secretary about Expanding Florida Medicaid?
Governor Scott is in Washington D.C. today meeting with Health & Human Services Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius. The Governor wrote an article that was published in the Tampa Bay Times yesterday in which he talked about growing up in a family who had trouble paying for health care for one of his brothers. He comments “I remember how my parents struggled to pay for my younger brother’s treatment.
I believe that having a safety net health care system – like Medicaid – is absolutely critical for those who need it most. But we must understand if we can afford to nearly double (from 3.3 million to 6.1 million by 2022-23) the number of Floridians using Medicaid today under the new law.”
Today’s Medicaid budget in Florida uses over 30% of the state budget – how does the governor think that we can possibly afford to add anymore to that? The Governor has not said definitely that Florida will not set up a State Health Exchange, much less nullify Obamacare for the state of Florida. There is still a select committee in the Florida Senate dealing with the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act). This committee will be meeting again next week. We need to be watching what this committee is doing, attending their meetings when we can. Why not email the Governor here or call him at 1-850-488-7146.

Gun Control Legislation on the Horizon?
– Senator Feinstein has said that she is going to introduce gun control legislation shortly that will include banning the sale, transfer, importation or manufacturing of 120 specifically named firearms, semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds,
will grandfather weapons already possessed but require them to be REGISTERED. This will include: background check of owner and any transferee, type and serial number of firearm, positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint, certification from local law enforcement of identity. She will include funding for ATF to implement registration. (this is from her website, click here
to view a summary of her bill). We need to remember that: 1) this is not going to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals or people who have gone over the edge and are determined to commit an evil act 2) this has always been the first step to confiscation (prime example is Nazi Germany).
