Editor's note

In 2016, Homa Hoodfar, Professor Emerita at Concordia University, was detained in Tehran’s infamous Evin prison for 112 days for the non-existent crime of “dabbling in feminism”. Here, she pays tribute to thousands of brave Iranian women who are shedding their hijabs as they protest for equal rights. Known by some as “daughters of the revolution”, they have had enough not just of compulsory veiling, but of the gender politics that underpin it.
