Let the Leaf Peeping Commence!
By the end of the month Holmes County, will be filled with gorgeous and glowing fall colors. Leaves typically start to change colors in late September and peak in mid- to late-October.
Maple trees range from yellows to intense reds and oranges; oaks are generally a rusty red color and tulip or poplar trees are known for their bright yellow fall foliage.
There are several great foliage drives in Holmes County. Along the western part of the county, by Mohican State Park, State Route 3 north to Loudonville offers glorious views of untouched park land. Or take State Route 39 to the east from Loudonville to Sugarcreek for a drive that goes through the hills of Amish Country.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources will post a weekly fall leaves update starting Oct. 1.
