Research Update

Good afternoon,

Linked below is the April 2019 Domestic Tax Paid Estimate. Below find a few key points provided by our Chief Economist, Michael Uhrich:

  • Domestic beer volume decreased by 0.2% during April 2019, while consumer spending on domestic beer increased by an estimated 1.4%.
  • This April had one extra selling day compared to April 2018, and its adjusted trend was -4.7%.
  • April’s shipment trend was impacted by a general price increase, which had not taken place during the same period in 2018.
  • FMB shipments, including hard seltzers, are growing fast, and brewers continue to report that their distributor partners are building up inventories of these products to satisfy demand throughout the summer.

If you have any questions, please contact Michael at either 202-737-2337 or muhrich@beerinstitute.org.
