Welcome

Welcome to the March 2013 edition of the Future State Greats Ltd (FSG) e newsletters.  FSG makes funding available to Queensland school students between the ages of 10-19 years who want to play sports but for some reason find it difficult to do so.

Only Principals are eligible to apply for and on behalf of students that attend their schools.

2013 Future State Greats Ltd - Annual Function!

It was a great pleasure to once again play host to primary and secondary elite sports students who travelled to the Allan Border Field for the official FSG luncheon from around Queensland.  Each year we present bursaries to 24 students -12 primary and 12 secondary in recognition of their performances across the year in up to 21 elite sports.  Many have won in Queensland colours at Australian championships and others such as Laura Dennis, Daniel Coleman, Tim Dickson and David Coulthard have even preformed on the world stage.

The Minister Education Training and Employment John Paul Langbroek was in attendance along with Acting Deputy Director-General, Education Queensland Lyn McKenzie, plus David Robertson and Bob Knight the heads of the Independent and Catholic Schools Queensland.  It was also great to have Queensland and Australian sport stars such as Laura Geitz, Jharal Yow Yeh and Jodie Fields.

QTMB Story of the Month for March 2013

Mesele Gebre

Mesele Gebre

Mesele was born in Ethiopia but when his parents were killed in the civil war, he and his older sister came to Australia as refugees. Together they share a room in a boarding house and Mesele attends Yeronga State High School.

Next year, Mesele will follow in his older sister and become an Australian citizen.  This is important to Mesele because his dream is to represent Australia at the Olympic Games.

Mesele has the support of the Yeronga State High School community who are only too happy to assist a young man who is working hard to help himself.

Whilst there may be plenty of excuses for Mesele, he works two part time jobs to fund his dream, he doesn’t skip school and in fact attends extra classes to better himself and is training hard to be the best athlete.

Future State Greats is here to help young people like Mesele fulfil their dreams and set an example to others that sport really can help change their lives.

I call on all Principals to nominate other worthy causes like Mesele's and assist us to … Find Our Next Great Story!

Yours in sport
