Billed as a “…fascinating true story about the love affair between socialite and author Vita Sackville-West and literary icon Virginia Woolf,” it highlights the different romantic worlds of inheritance-heavy males and powerful, individual women. How timely! HILLARY: OCEAN TO SKYIn 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay became the first humans ever to climb Mount Everest. But Hillary never considered it his finest achievement. The “best, the most memorable expedition of them all,” was his Ocean to Sky adventure in 1977, he said. Tigers, rapids, altitude sickness, millions of chanting Indians and the warm bond between Hillary, his son and their intrepid team will take your breath away! Hillary: Ocean to Sky LUNANA: A YAK IN THE CLASSROOMAnd for a big finale how breathtaking is our closing night film? Lunana- A Yak in the Classroom is a heart-warming story of a young man who yearns for the bright lights and ends up in the high Himalayas teaching simple village kids – and loves it. If you’ve ever dreamed of finding a simpler, more truthful way of life, check out Bhutan where they even have a Happiness Index! STORIES OF TASMANIAThis year we invited short film makers to tell us stories of Tasmania. About the people who live here and the places they love, but also the issues that affect us right here on our island. What makes Tasmania and Tasmanians different. And they did us proud with docos and dramas that are a real BOFA. Our judges are now busy selecting the best entries to screen online in the Stories of Us section of the program. The competition is supported by Tourism Tasmania and Brand Tasmania with prizes of $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 and free subscriptions to Forty South the magazine for people who live in Tasmania, those who wish they lived here and those who wish they’d never left. A place to call home while at BOFA LauncestonHeading for BOFA Launceston with nowhere to stay? Why not join other BOFA Buffs for a night or two or three at The Florance? This stylish boutique hotel is only a few blocks away from Village Cinemas, the home of BOFA, and just across the road from Launceston’s beautiful City Park. Who knows who you might meet over breakfast in the hotel’s stylish conservatory as you plan your BOFA day. Special rates are available by contacting the hotel directly and mentioning the magic word – yes, it’s BOFA of course! But be quick, the rooms are filling fast. A LITTLE BACKSTORY Not many people know the backstory about how BOFA Film Festival started. Well, it was simple. Take one state without an official film festival, add some Tassie film lovers with a “breath of fresh air” approach and sprinkle with a garnish of support from governments and community. Stir and you get a festival that is a BOFA! We're now in our 12th year, BOFA is state-wide, last year we were the first online film festival in Australia - and it’s been a breathtaking journey of ups and downs! Thanks for the continued support, guys. TASMANIAN BREATH OF FRESH AIR FILM FESTIVAL BOFA Film Festival |
